I mean…. how exactly does the organic waste inside a compost bin break down into compost?

the organic matter is broken down by the action of bacteria in the soil.therefore it is a good idea to put a sprinkle of good soil between layers from time to time.the bacteria can be fed by adding sulphate of ammonia or compost accelerators obtained from garden centres. just sprinkle some between layers of the organic matter.the process is slow so it will take a year for good results.
